C.C.A. Ltd., a company on Canouan that provides construction, architecture and maintenance services, on Wednesday donated US$3,000 to help to defray the cost of dialysis treatment for Catherine Sergeant, the wife of one of its employees.

Speaking during a brief presentation at Beachmont at Health Solutions Inc., the nation’s only dialysis treatment provider, Camille Crichton, managing director of Professional Secretarial & Consultancy Services Inc. said that C.C.A. Ltd. believes in humanitarian services.

She said the company believes in giving to persons in dire needs, especially relatives of their employees.

Sergeant thanked C.C.A. Ltd. for the donation, saying that it will go a long way, and that she is looking forward to further assistance in this year.

Sergeant receives dialysis treatment twice per week, at a cost of EC$500 per treatment. She said that it is a challenge to meet the cost the treatment.

Meanwhile, Pauline Garabedian, managing director of Health Solutions Inc., said that while dialysis treatment is costly to provide, her company is happy that it is able to offer the lowest rates in the region.

She said that if the cost of travel to Trinidad or Barbados before the dialysis was available locally were factored in, Vincentians would have to pay even more to access the life-saving treatment.

Garabedian said the communities work hard to assist patients, some of which work themselves, and have fundraisers, such as barbeques, to meet the cost of dialysis.
