The theme for the RBTT/RBC Young Leaders this year is “Diversity: The 21st Century Imperative”. The West St. George Secondary School Young Leaders are embracing this theme through their sub-theme “Advancement With Inclusion”.

The group of Young Leaders commenced their main project on Friday when 20 Form 3 students began a course in woodwork at the Glen Learning Centre. Another eight students commenced a course in culinary arts. This week, two other courses will be brought on stream: auto-mechanics and nail care and painting.

This project was developed by the Young Leaders to help provide career guidance to at-risk students, by giving them the opportunity to gain certification in some of the above-mentioned areas.

The group of Young Leaders also conducted a march and rally though the communities of Belair, Dauphine and Gomea to heighten awareness of the main theme this year and to encourage residents to embrace diversity.

This week the group plans to continue their community awareness campaign by conducting school visits. The Young Leaders of WSGSS will also be hosting a community sensitisation programme at the Dorris Mackie Learning Resource Centre in Upper Cane Hall beginning at 3 p.m. on Sunday, March 30.
