The Central Water and Sewerage Authority has announced its free white goods collection slated for Sept. 22 to 27.
This initiative was introduced in September of 2011 as the Authority sought to deliver to the populace and customers an even more efficient waste collection, and by extension waste management system. There have been six such collections to date and the response from the general public is encouraging.
Of note is the gradual reduction in the amount of white goods collected following successive collections. In September 2011, 2,514 cubic yards of white goods was collected compared to 695.83 cubic yards in March 2014.
The CWSA/SWMU is asking all households to avail themselves of this free service and to rid their premises of discarded household white goods.
The public is asked to note that white goods will be collected on the same day the regular garbage will be collected, and all are required to have both the white goods and regular waste at the correct points by 6 a.m. for collection.
For further information on the 2014 white goods collection service call the CWSA at 456-2946.
I trust that these white goods are being recycled or sold to recylcling businesses and not just being dumped.
