The man injured in what was initially reported as a “drive-by shooting” in Rillan Hill Sunday night has been identified as 32-year-old Layou resident Terrance “Yellow” Smith.

Smith was shot along the road between Rillan Hill and Pembroke around 9:45 p.m.

He was walking in the direction of Layou with Wayne “Barber” Smith, one of his brothers, when the shooting occurred.

Reports say that a third man was also walking with the Smiths, but I-Witness News has been unable to confirm this.

Initial reports Sunday night was that Smith was shot by the occupant of a vehicle that drove by.

However, I-Witness News was subsequently told that the shooting was done by an assailant who emerged from bushes at the side of the road.

Reports say that a vehicle travelling in the direction of Kingstown picked up the shooter when the gunfire stopped and sped away from the scene.

Villagers have reported hearing three shots.

Smith was taken to hospital and is being treated for a gunshot wound to the abdomen.

Police are investigating.
