Drugs destroyed

The Royal St. Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force on Thursday destroyed a quantity of illicit drugs this morning with a street value of EC$25,730,400.

The exercise took place at Rabacca at 10:45 a.m.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Reynold Hadaway said the illicit drugs are for the period January 2010 to July 2015 that were collected from matters that were disposed of by the courts.

He explained that they were seized by various stations, units, and the Coast Guard.

Some were interdicted at sea from joint sea operations by the Narcotics Unit, the Rapid Response Unit and the Coastguard.

Most of the illegal drugs were seized on land.

Hadaway said 12,194.80 pounds of cannabis with a street value of EC$18,292,200 were destroyed along with 228 grams of cannabis plants (street value EC$5,000).

Some 130.7 pounds of cocaine with a street value of EC$7,432,450 were also destroyed.

The Police also destroyed 50 grams of cocaine rocks with a street value of EC$750.
