The Blue Marlins Swim Club hosted its annual 8 & Under Developmental Swim Meet on Sunday at the Shrewsbury Aquatic Centre at Ratho Mill.

Thirty-two swimmers, ranging from ages 3 to 8, participated from two clubs, Blue Marlins Swim Club and Blacksands Swim Squad.

The annual meet serves to showcase the young talent and highlights the interest in the sport of swimming.

The young fledgling swimmers copped over 30 medals for the top three places in each race with ribbons being distributed from 4th to 6th place. swum in all four established strokes, freestyle, backstroke,

An entertaining race using the swimming aid of a kick board provided much fun and excitement from supportive parents at the event.

Keen competition was the order of the events as each swimmer sought to outdo and win as much races as possible from the wide field of their Learn to Swim training friends.

All swimmers gave a good account of themselves by demonstrating the strokes learned through the diligence and commitment of their coaches.

Four of the 8- & 7-year-old athletes are now poised to participate in Team SVG’s bid for supremacy, in the 26th Annual OECS Regional Swim Championships slated for Nov. 10 to 13 at the Shrewsbury Aquatic Centre.

Teams from the BVI, Antigua, St. Maarten/ Sint Maarten, St. Lucia, Martinique and Grenada are expected to compete.

    Well done Mr Kyle Dougan in being the prime creator of the venue and taking the sport in SVG to a new level, we love you.
