The age of consent should be raised to 16 and not 18. I strongly disagree with the Minister of Gender Affairs and Parliamentary Representative for South Windward that it should be increased from 15 to 18.
The age of consent in Canada is 16 and in the majority of states in the United States of America, it is 16. Also, 16 is the oldest age of consent in South America. The age of consent in Europe is between 14 and 16; in Australia, 16; New Zealand, 16; in Asia, you must be married or 16; in Africa, it varies from 12 to 18; and in most Caribbean jurisdiction, it is 16 — excluding three states.
If we are a Christian community, we should not agree that the age of consent should be raised to 18 years. We should make it illegal to have sex outside marriage. Sex is not for adults; it’s for married couples.
If we are saying that persons under the age of 18 are children, why called them big women and big men at St. Vincent and the Grenadines Community College (SVGCC)?
Young people at the SVGCC should study their books and do well and get good grades. However, at the same time, they have to enjoy themselves, enjoy life.
These are not the days when young people believed that babies came by way of planes. It’s a new generation. I don’t see the reason to lock up an 18-year-old SVGCC male student who is pursuing an associate degree to get a scholarship to go university because he has sex with a 16- or 17-year-old female student at the same college.
It will be a sad state if the Government of St. Vincent and the Grenadines starts locking up SVGCC students for having sex with each other. We should always have the love for the youth. The Labour Party is just stupid. Come 2020, we should allow 16-year-olds to vote, have ID cards and driver’s licenses. Like someone said, too many of our youths in SVG have been left out of decision-making. It’s time for them to vote for their own future. #YoungPeopleTime
There are lots of adults at the SVGCC, but putting the consent age at 18 will make it hard to know who 16 and 17 at SVGCC because some people love to hide their age and they look old but they are not 18. This will just cause too much trouble at SVGCC. Presently, everyone at SVGCC, or as long as you on polo, orange, or the green uniform, can give consent. It is so much easier so why complicate it then lock up the youth of the future?
GONSLAVES always talk about careful consideration. Let’s not create a problem at SVGCC. Think before you do. We are the future; we are the one to make a brighter day #Don’tLockWeUp

The age of consent in Canada used to be 14. It was raised to 16. I doubt the Rolling Stones will ever rehearse their tours in Toronto again. My first true love was 16. I was 17. It was a critical relationship for me. We grew older together for a few years. She changed how I saw the world, how I saw women. At age 16 you are usually very sexual. The biblical Virgin Mary was about 16 when she became pregnant. She gave birth to Jesus Christ, and managed to convince a lot of people it was the son of God. The New Testament is very different than the Old Testament. It’s much kinder. But 16 years old, I was only interested in girls, and that’s just who I was.
Chovil, you are entitled to speak however you please when it comes of the fallible things of this world. However, when it comes to speaking of and judging the Word of God, I rebuke the spirit of error that is within you that seek to blaspheme against The Most High God. Do not be a fool and disrespect the Creator who gives life and have the power to take life. Humble yourself and let God be true and have respect for the one who give you life and is making you breathe right now. Repent of your folly and receive forgiveness for the liberty you have foolishly taken and operated in the spirit of rebellion. God is never mocked. It is written, Whatsoever you sow you shall reap…Repent and seek God’s mercy. Do not continue to treat the truth with disdain.
