A man who is on bail on an armed robbery charge has been charged with possession of an unlicensed firearm and two rounds of 12-gauge ammunition without a licence.

Dennis Richardson pleaded not guilty to the charges when he appeared at the Serious Offences Court in Kingstown on Monday.

Prosecutor, Adolphus Delplesche, objected to bail, noting that the defendant is on bail in connection with a charge of robbery, in which a firearm was reportedly used.

The prosecutor further told the court that the detective in the matter had indicated that he would be ready to proceed to trial on Tuesday.

Richardson told the court that he would like to contact his attorney.

Chief Magistrate Rechanne Browne-Matthias denied Richardson bail.

The defendant then told her that the trial could take place on Tuesday, adding that his counsel would be briefed by then.

“No, we are not doing it so,” the chief magistrate responded.

“I want to give you sufficient time to get your counsel in order,” she said.

The chief magistrate set the trial for March 27, 2017.

Richardson was on bail in connection with the Jan. 30, 2017 robbery of P.H. Veira & Co. Ltd. employee Dwight Ryan in Kingstown of EC$36,915.05, the property of P.H. Veira & Co. Ltd.

Two 15-year-old youths are also charged in connection with that robbery. They are expected to return to court on May 10, 2017 for a preliminary inquiry.
