KINGSTOWN, St. Vincent – Members of Parliament (MPs) can be expected to know soon whether Attorney General Judith Jones-Morgan should have voted when the Hendrick Alexander was elected Speaker of the House of Assembly in January.

Jones-Morgan, an MP, is not a minister of government, but a public officer.

House Speaker Hendrick Alexander told Parliament yesterday that he had received an executive summary of a legal opinion on the issue.

However, Friday was absent from Parliament yesterday and the Speaker said he would wait for the full report before making an announcement.

Opposition MPs walked out of Parliament on May 27 to protest the failure of the Speaker to rule on the controversial vote and an issue relating to statements by Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves.
