official opening of the georgetown police station 1
The new police station in Georgetown is one of the largest in the country.

KINGSTOWN, St. Vincent — The Georgetown Police Station will be officially opened today during a ceremony at 3:30 p.m.

Prime Minister and Minister of National Security Dr. Ralph Gonsalves will deliver the feature address while Commissioner of Police Keith Miller will give some remarks.

Gonsalves and Miller will join in hoisting the flag at the three-story building, one of the largest police stations in the country.

Hans King, press secretary to Prime Minister, will chair the ceremony, which will also hear remarks from Errol Sutherland of the contracting firm, Sea Operations Ltd.

Pastor Hollis Charles will bless the facility while a cultural package will see performances from the Georgetown Steel Orchestra, with entertainment by the Royal St. Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force Band.

In August 2008, the government signed with Sea Operations Ltd. a contract valued EC$3,658,312.04 for the construction of the police station while a another contract, valued EC$101,376.28, was signed with C.C.A. Ltd, Canouan, for the supply of furniture.

The police station is constructed on 14,600 square feet of lands and two additional parcels of land were acquired to enhance the surrounding.

The Ministry of Transport and Works designed and supervised the project.
