KINGSTOWN, St. Vincent – Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves is slated to lead a team of government officials on a trip to Canouan tomorrow for the offical opening of two buildings there.

The delegation will also include Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education Girlyn Miguel and Godfred Pompey, permanent secretary in the Ministry of National Security,.

On Friday morning, Miguel will preside over the official opening of the Marine Learning Resource Centre.

The EC$1.5 million centre was constructed by CCA Ltd. and provides facilities for Vincentians interested in further studies in marine-related areas.

Before this, Miguel will visit the refurbished Canouan Primary School to meet with the staff and students during the assembly period.

CCA Ltd. gave the school an EC$300,000 facelift, including improvements to the floor space, windows, bathrooms and the perimeter.

At 2p.m., Gonsalves will deliver the feature address at the opening of the new Canouan Administrative Building.

Other addresses will come from Elena Korach of CCA Ltd., Edwin Snagg, director of Grenadines Affairs, and Member of Parliament for the Southern Grenadines Terrence Ollivierre.

This building, with over 11,904 square metres of floor space, was constructed at a cost of EC$4.7 million, and will provide offices for Canouan Revenue Department, the post office, immigration services, the Tourism Bureau and the Magistrate’s office.

The facility also includes accommodation for workers from St. Vincent, a stand-by generator and a 72,000 U.S. gallon storage cistern.

The government officials will return to St. Vincent tomorrow evening.
