KINGSTOWN, St. Vincent – The general manager of one fuel supplier here has confirmed to I-Witness News that his company has ran out of diesel and has a “limited” supply of gasoline, less than one week before Christmas.

“We are currently out of diesel and gasoline supply is currently limited, Steve Francis,

general manager of Sol St. Vincent/Grenada told I-Witness News Monday morning.

However, an employee of Rubis, the other supplier of fuel here, said that her company has not run out of fuel “as far as the bulk terminals are concerned”.

Francis said that this company was expecting a ship to arrive here on Tuesday and would issue a statement later today.

But the Rubis employee, who declined giving her name, said that her company has “a very, very regular supplier” of gasoline and diesel.

“It is just that we have an increase in sales and, like any other place that has an increase in sales, you run out and we have already taken fuel to our gas stations,” she said.

Asked, when did her company run out of fuel, the employee responded, “We have not ran out at any point.

“Texaco (St. Vincent), we had an increase in sales; we did not run out here at the bulk terminals but our gas stations have fuel. We have gas at our gas stations. There is no shortage of gasoline or diesel in St. Vincent, as far as the bulk terminal is concerned,” she said.

Reports reaching I-Witness News Monday morning indicated that some motorists in and around Kingstown had to queue up to fill up their tanks even as some service stations in rural parts of the country were without fuel.
