KINGSTOWN, St. Vincent — Fuel supplier SOL announced Thursday that a shipment of gasoline and diesel is expected to arrive here on Friday.

The shipment is expected to relieve congestions at some of the nation’s service station after the company ran out of diesel on and was low on gasoline supply on Monday.

The situation prompted Minister of Land Transport Sen. Julian Francis to intervene on Tuesday, negotiating the sale of fuel to SOL by its competitor, Rubis.

“SOL wishes to notify its customers that a shipment of gasoline and diesel is expected to arrive in St. Vincent on Friday, December 23, 2011 and normal distribution should resume from around 1:30 p.m. on the same day,” the company said in a statement Thursday.

“We apologise for the inconvenience caused and assure you that we have been working tirelessly to source product for our customers,” the release further said.

The situation at SOL developed because of industrial action at its supplier, Petrotrin in Trinidad.

Some motorists in and around Kingstown had to queue up to purchase fuel earlier in the week even as some service stations in rural St. Vincent had run out of fuel.
