KINGSTOWN, St. Vincent – It was the sound of gunshots and not fireworks that rang in the New Year in this city.

Well-placed sources tell I-Witness News that a shooting in Kingstown left one young man nursing wounds at the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital.

His name, age, address, and occupation, however, are yet unknown.

The incident occurred around 1 a.m. on New Year’s Day on McCoy Street near to Brewster’s Auto, formerly Black Cat Bar.

Eyewitnesses say the shots rang out even as worshipers were heading home from New Year’s Eve worship and partygoers made their way to entertainment spots across the city.

According to sources, a car with no number plates drove by and two mask men fired shots at a young male who was sitting in the area.

Eyewitnesses say many as four shots were heard in the crowded area, a few hundred metres away from a party near the Leeward Bus Terminal.

Police arrived on the scene minutes later, according to sources.
