KINGSTOWN, St. Vincent – The successful completion of the university education of a Vincentian in Miami has made headlines in one newspaper there.

The Miami Times in a recent article told the story of Jonte Myers, 29, who graduated from Florida Memorial University at the top of his class with a 4.0 grade point average.

Myers’ completion of a bachelor’s degree in exceptional student education is a story of perseverance. He had to overcome the death of his mother at age 12 and began his undergraduate studies at age 27.

He told the publication that the successful completion of his studies was the end of “a journey that was about 12 years in the making.

“Financially it was difficult because my mother passed away when I was only 12-years-old. I was living with relatives and when they left I was basically on my own. I did a lot of growing up by myself,” he told the North American newspaper.
