KINGSTOWN, St. Vincent – The delivery of fuel to Chateaubelair by SOL would recommence “with immediate effect,” the company announced yesterday.

Steve Francis, manager of SOL, said in a press statement that the company decided to recommence delivery of fuel to the North Leeward town after a teleconference with the Bridges, Road, and General Services Authority (BRAGSA).

SOL had stopped delivering petrol to Chateaubelair amidst safety concerns about the condition of a section of the road in Charles Village.

BRAGSA resurfaced the road last Thursday, three days after Christiana Thompson, the operator of the service station in Chateaubelair, sued SOL for, among other things, discontinuation of delivery of fuel.

“SOL is pleased to advise that following work done by BRAGSA recently on the Charles Village Road at Spring Village, and a subsequent teleconference between BRAGSA and SOL, the parties agreed that the work performed on the road is temporary and that both parties will monitor the road until a permanent solution is effected,” Francis said in the statement.

“In light of this, SOL further agreed that fuel supply to the Service Station will recommence with immediate effect,” the statement further said.

Member of Parliament for North Leeward, opposition legislator Roland “Patel” Matthews had noted the challenges to residents of the constituency with the suspension of the delivery of fuel to Chateaubelair.

The nearest service station to North Leeward is in Cane Grove (Pembroke) in Central Leeward, just across the border from South Leeward.
