KINGSTOWN, St. Vincent – A Vincentian-born man, said to be the first national of this country to receive a Grammy Award, was congratulated in Parliament this week.
“For the first time, a Vincentian, in the person of Raymond Williams has formed part of a trio to win a technical Grammy Award for his work in audio engineering …” opposition senator Vynnette Frederick told lawmakers.
“He’s from Chateaubelair and he is a member of my family by marriage so I think it would be remiss of me not to mention that St. Vincent now has bragging rights internationally to declare that a national of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, and a resident until age 14 when he migrated, of Chateaubelair, is the winner of a technical Grammy Award, which he was presented with some weeks ago.
Williams was among a team from Celemony that was recognized for their role in the advancement of Melodyne software.
The software is used in recording studios to refine vocal performances to a level of perfection that previously was not possible.
