KINGSTOWN, St. Vincent – Local and Antiguan police could provide Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves with the “Impeccable” intelligence about the opposition New Democratic Party’s recent trip to Antigua, according to NDP Vice-President St. Clair Leacock.
Gonsalves said this week that he has “impeccable” intelligence that the leadership of the NDP two weeks ago met with their financiers in Antigua to discuss a no-confidence motion against his government and reinstating an economic citizenship programme here.
“… we understand fully that if three, four, five of us leave here on party business, on state business, to represent the best interest of St. Vincent and the Grenadines … that from the time we sign our immigration form at E.T. Joshua Airport, the Special Branch will call the Prime Minister and say ‘Mr. Eustace, Mr. Leacock, Dr. Friday, Vynnette Friday and the treasurer of the party are at the airport and they are departing to a destination’,” Leacock said on radio.
“We expect that. We know also that, on the basis of that experience before, … he will call Antigua and say [to Prime Minister Baldwin Spencer,] ‘Mr. Eustace is coming to Antigua. Put your Special Branch on their case. Put a driver behind them, trail them see what hotel they are in, see what they are doing, what they had for tea, what they had for breakfast, what they had for dinner,” Leacock further said.
“That’s how I expect Dr. Gonsalves to function,” Leacock further said, adding that during the 2010 election campaign, Gonsalves said he could have told Opposition Leader Arnhim Eustace which hotel room Eustace was going in during a trip overseas.
“So perhaps he could even tell you which underpants he wears,” Leacock further stated. He said that while the NDP is intelligent to know how Gonsalves operates, it doesn’t participate in clandestine activities.
“The Prime Minister … has a way of dealing with the Vincentian public, sometimes we say ‘fool ah talk but nah fool ah listen’. And he obviously has got to the stage of life now that he believes that Vincentians are essentially a dotish bunch of people who can be manipulated.
“… That he can say just about anything to us and we would swallow that hook, line and sinker. And one gets the impression that he himself is so immersed into this approach now that he actually believes in his lies.”
