HIGH WYCOMBE, England — The Men’s Christian Fellowship of Wycombe Community Seventh Day Adventist Church (MCF) held their annual fundraising event to celebrate St Vincent and the Grenadines’ National Heroes Day as well as showcase Vincentian talent and culture.

The event, titled “Totally Gospel” raised funds for the Lewis Punnett Home and the High Commission’s latest Charity Project “Book Our Future”, which assist low-income families, who benefit from the “School Book Loan Scheme”.

The event provided opportunities for performers to use a variety of cultural activities to raise funds while praising God. Play writer and performer Alan Charles was master of ceremony and kept the crowd in a joyous mood between acts.

Notable nationals who were remembered at the event were Levi Latham by Mikhail Charles and Claire Paynter by Judy Thomas. As usual, sumptuous Caribbean food was provided during the interval.

The High Commissioner expressed his gratitude for the continuous support of the MCF to those families who would benefit from their efforts.

A representative of the MCF said, “We know that the youth of our country is our future, but we should also take the time to show our appreciation to our elderly. They have done much for us, it only right that we should look after them and help to provide them with the dignity that they deserve in their twilight years.”

Performers included Sonia Pope and her sister Carla, Starlight, Micklefield SDA Youth Choir, Children from the Wycombe Community SDA Church, Nicki Baptist and some of the cast from Alan Charles’ production “Love and Sax and all that Jazz Part 2 Da Men Dem”.

The event ended with an uplifting rendition of “Lean On Me” performed by MCF who were joined on stage by others who also assisted in organising the event.
