KINGSTOWN, St. Vincent — Prime Minster Dr. Ralph Gonsalves left the state Wednesday at the helm of a five-member delegation, to attend the Sixth Summit of the Americas in Cartagena, Colombia, beginning Friday.

The other members of the delegation include his wife, Eloise Gonsalves, Minister of Foreign Affairs Sen. Douglas Slater, Ambassador to the United States La Celia Prince, and Counselor at the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Embassy in Washington, Asram Soleyn, the Office of the Prime Minister said in a statement.

The Summit brings together leaders from the Americas to discuss issues of mutual interest under the theme “Connecting the Americas; partners of Prosperity”.

It will focus on the role of physical integration and regional cooperation as a means to achieve greater levels of development, and to overcome the hemisphere’s challenges in several key areas, including poverty and inequalities, citizen security, disasters and access to technologies.

Gonsalves will also hold bilateral talks with prominent leaders, including from Canada, Brazil and Argentina, on a number of topics including mutual cooperation, education and training, and airport development, the statement further said.

Gonsalves is expected to return to return to St. Vincent on Monday, when he will begin preparing to attend the World Investment Forum 2012, in Doha, Qatar, sponsored by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development.
