KINGSTOWN, St. Vincent – Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves met for two hours with the Emir of Qatar Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani aboard the Arab leader’s yacht Wednesday night.

“I want to say Mr. Speaker, the relationship between our two countries is deepening. A delegation is coming from Qatar soon to deal with a series of matters in relation to investments not only in St. Vincent but on the Grenadine islands in relation to the airport,” Gonsalves told Parliament Thursday of the meeting that began at 8 p.m.

“And they also offers of scholarships for students. But they have to be excellent students because … they have the university city in Qatar where there are six branches of world-renowned universities … and it would be very good or us to broaden the number of scholarships we are getting from top class institutions for our students,” he further said.

Gonsalves did not say what was the nature of the Emir’s visit to this country or how long he stayed.

No announcement of the Emir’s visit was made and the meeting between the two leaders took place shortly after Gonsalves returned to the country after officials visits to Taiwan and London
