KINGSTOWN, St. Vincent – Chair of the Carnival Development Corporation’s (CDC) Beauty Show’s Committee, Cheryl Rodriguez has defended the judging of the Miss SVG pageant held at Victoria Park last Saturday.

Miss Lime Carice Glasgow 23, of Glen, won the title ahead of seven other contestants, including Miss Mustique Co. Ltd., Terranza Franklyn of Golden Grove, who won all but one of the judged categories of the show.

The 20-year-old Franklyn took the Best Eveningwear, Best Swimwear, and Best Talent titles while Glasgow won Best Interview segment.

The interview segment counts for 30 points; swimwear, 25 points; evening gown, 25 points; and, talent, 20 points.

Persons have been questioning the results with some saying that Franklyn should have won because of the number of categories that she dominated.

But Rodriguez, in an interview with the state-owned National Broadcasting Corporation, defended the integrity of the judging.

She said that the scores are tabulated by auditors and not by judges and the winner is the contestants who get the highest number of points overall.

“Judges do not confer. They record their individual scores, and the sheets are passed on to the auditors. The auditors tabulate the scores and the girl with the highest points comes out the winner,” Rodriguez said.

She said the five judges on the panel are all Vincentians of “high integrity” and judges are not allowed to discuss with each other the number of points the give any of the contestants.

Glasgow, who has an Associate Degree in computer science from the University of the Virgin Islands, is a senior majoring in business administration with a concentration in finance, at the institution.

Her winnings Saturday night include an EC$80,000 university scholarship and EC$8000 in prize money. The 2009 Miss University of the Virgin Islands aspires to be an corporate lawyer.
