KINGSTOWN, St. Vincent – The EC$652 million international airport under construction at Argyle has received all the requisite “go aheads in terms of what we are doing” from the requisite regional and international civil aviation authorities, Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves said Tuesday.
“The International Airport Development Company they have been working hand in glove with the Eastern Caribbean Civil Aviation Authority (ECCAA) and also the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO). These are regulatory bodies, you work with them on an on-going basis so that is anything you are going is wrong, you can correct it,” Gonsalves said at a press conference.
The press briefing was held at the end of the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) Authority meeting here.
Gonsalves said that when the airport is completed –expected in 2013 — ECCA and ICAO will do a final assessment before aircrafts can land at the facility.
“But you are working with them on an on-going basis. You don’t just do the designs, do the works separately and wait until the end. No, you have them engaged on an on-going basis and if you have to make any correctives, you do that on an on-going basis. That’s how the exercise is done,” Gonsalves said.
