ST. JOHN’S, Antigua – Regional Airline LIAT said on Thursday that its management has “taken note of reports in the regional media regarding the delayed payment of salaries for the month of June 2012”.

“Corporate Communications Manager Desmond Brown on Thursday confirmed that the Company has commenced the processing of salaries for all employee groups. He advised that salaries for monthly paid employees are due at the end of the month,” LIAT said in a statement.

“Mr. Brown explained that the Company’s pay cycle varies among the different groups of LIAT employees and that some LIAT staff have already received their June salaries. He said it is anticipated that all employees will receive their salaries by Tuesday July 3,” the statement further said.

OBSERVER Media in Antigua has reported that a memo from LIAT’s human resources manager said that the delay was due to cash-flow problems worsened by the June 10 fire at LIAT’s hangar.

“As you are aware, LIAT has been experiencing severe cash-flow constraints for some time. The situation has been worsened by the recent fire, which has caused the company to incur significant unplanned expenses in order to continue normal operations,” OBSERVER Media quoted the correspondence as saying.
