KINGSTOWN, St. Vincent, March 1, IWN – The owners of Nice Radio must prepare to pay Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves as he moves to execute two additional judgements against the station.
Two days after Nice Radio paid Gonsalves $206,000 for defamation, Douglas DeFreitas, the station’s owner and manager, on Wednesday wrote Gonsalves apologising and asking him not to pursue the pending cases.
But Gonsalves has told a local newspaper that he will be pursuing the cases.
Gonsalves said he appreciates that De Freitas, his cousin, has apologised for any discomfort he may have caused.
But Gonsalves said that De Freitas has also caused discomfort to his wife, mother and daughter.
“I am proceeding. I am sure that the judicial process, would as always, be fair to everyone,” Gonsalves told the newspaper.
De Freitas, speaking on Wednesday evening at the end of 12 hours of programming thanking God that the station had avoided going into receivership, said the Holy Spirit inspired him to write to Gonsalves.

“So, that’s where I am, just exactly what the Spirit tells me to do. Whatever happens after that is God’s will and I want you people who journey with Nice Radio and the family of Nice Radio and the people of St. Vincent and the Grenadines to pray and to continue to pay earnestly and sincerely that somehow God’s way will be the only way,” De Freitas told listeners.
The $206,000 paid on Monday was in relations to comments that a host of an opposition talk show made on Nice Radio almost 10 years ago.
