KINGSTOWN, St. Vincent, March 5, IWN – The Carnival Development Corporation (CDC) on Tuesday introduced the eight young ladies who will vie for Miss SVG 2013 at Victoria Park on June 1.
Cheryl Rodriguez, chair of the CDC’s Beauty Shows Committee, introduced the contestants at a press conference in Kingstown.
They are:
- Shannon Bess, 22, of Old Montrose
- Ann Therese Chambers, 23, of Glen
- Marresa Endeavour, 22, of Glen
- Shara George, 22, of Cane Garden
- Chenead Hackshaw, 22, of Spring Village
- Hannah Hamilton, 22, of Dorsetshire Hill
- Anna La Borde, 24, Hopewell
- Brooke Legair, 20, of Paul Over
She said the contestants were chosen from among 16 young ladies who were interviewed last July.
Training began on Aug. 20, 2012 and, in January 2013, a final eight were selected. Their training will continue until May, Rodriguez said.
She said that for the first time the contestants were being introduced to the public three months before the official launch of Vincy Mas.
“This early launching of contestants was approved by the Board of the CDC to allow them the opportunity to meet the public over the next three months. You will get to know them better, and fall in love with them. We are delighted with this decision, as over the years, it proved challenging to squeeze all activities into the month of May, and there are a lot of activities,” she said.
But the CDC is still seeking two additional sponsors.
Rodriguez said her committee is continuing its efforts to make Miss SVG 2013 “a pageant of a high standard.
Our goal each year is to prepare the contestants for all areas of competition, by empowering them with self-worth and self confidence. We develop and coach contestants to represent our country in overseas pageants, by covering a variety of areas specific to pageantry and we assist them to develop skills that will be beneficial to them personally and professionally; skills that will help them to achieve the ultimate level of success in their lives,” she said.
“The areas of training include personal hygiene and nutrition, exercise, posture, poise, walk, on stage presentation, self esteem, confidence building, communication and body language skills, personal/professional development, social graces, wardrobe selection, grooming and image development, professional make up techniques.
We believe that from year to year we achieve our objectives and surpass them, as we are confident that we help to change the lives of many aspiring young Vincentian women, who pass through our magical hands,” Rodriguez further said.
