KINGSTOWN, St. Vincent, May 28, IWN — The Carnival Development Corporation (CDC) says the stage is set and patrons can expect a “great show” at Miss SVG 2013 at the Victoria Park on Saturday.

“The Victoria Park, Carnival City as we know it, will be transformed into Glamour City,” Cheryl Rodriguez, chair of the CDC’s Beauty Shows Committee told a press conference on Tuesday.

“Contestants, chaperons and committee members are ready for the big stage,” she said.

“Patrons can expect a professionally executed production, high standard performances from all contestant, an entertaining evening from all the components of carnival — mas, pan, calypso, raga soca — and creative acts from guest and featured artistes,” Rodriguez further stated.

Eight women are vying for the title and the winner will take home a university scholarship, cash and other prizes.

The winner this year will also take the first annual Avis Yorke Trophy, a tribute to Yorke, the former deputy chair of the Beauty Shows Committee, who died last August.

The contestants are Miss LIME, Shannon Nakita Bess; Miss Agricultural Input Warehouse, Anne Therese Chambers; Miss SVG Port Authority, Maressa Odama Endeavour; Miss Mustique Co. Ltd., Shara George, Miss Super Six, Chenead Candida Hackshaw; Miss Lotto, Hannah Hamilton; Miss Metrocint General Insurance Co. Ltd., Anna LaBorde; and Miss Coreas Hazells, Brooke Crystal Legair.

Judging will be in Swimwear, Talent, Evening Gown and Interview categories.

The show will feature this year’s Best New Song winners, Grantley “Ipa” Constance (calypso), Tamisha Nichols (ragga soca), an Icon (soca).

Shaunelle McKenzie, who is celebrating 20 years as an artiste, will be the featured act.

The contestants meet with Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves and the Cabinet tomorrow Wednesday morning before a dress rehearsal later that day.
