She said the event promises to be bigger and better this year.

Matthews, while expressing confidence in the young ladies, stated, “I promise they (patrons) won’t be disappointed.”

Meanwhile, Kenville Horne, public relation officer of the North Leeward Sports Association, organisers of the carnival activities, is also appealing to persons to supports the contestants.

He explained that entering a pageant is not easy, and takes courage.

“These young ladies have dedicated their time and effort to entertain and please the viewing public. So treat them with respect; they are all queen in their own right,” he said.

Horne further appealed for peace during the climax of the carnival activities in the constituency.

“We don’t want anyone to fight, which [could] result in a premature end to the carnival activities and a distaste to revellers. The police have a zero tolerance with regards to fighting,” Horne said.

Kenesha Edwards is the reigning Miss North Leeward. The carnival activities will conclude on Saturday with a j’ouvert and an evening jump-up, respectively, featuring j’ouvert band, “Gold Fever”.
