Director of Public Prosecution, Colin Williams has threatened to prosecute lawyers who he said has “pocketed” money belonging to the Government.

He made the disclosure during an interview on Wednesday as he questioned the motives of the Bar Association in speaking out against the July 11 arrest of opposition senator, Vynnette Frederick, a lawyer.

“There are lawyers who have pocketed money for the Government, … in transferring deeds. What is the Bar Association saying about that?

“There are lawyers again who are not paying their tax. There are lawyers who are paying less tax than the most junior lawyer in the office of the DPP. What is the Bar Association saying about that?” Williams further said.

Told that the Bar Association can in turn ask why the DPP is not prosecuting those lawyers, Williams said:

“And I will prosecute those and I will prosecute, in due course, those who have pocketed the money and have a court order saying that they must pay over to the Government its money.

“It is under investigation,” the DPP further said.

President of the Bar Association, Dr. Linton Lewis, who is also an opposition senator, said at a press conference on Wednesday that group was duty bound to speak out against the arrest of Frederick.

Frederick was arrested at a restaurant in Kingstown hours after a court dismissed six charges against her.

The Bar Association says that the arrest was illegal, a point with which the DPP disagrees.

Lewis further said the main function of the association is to ensure that its members obey the ethics of the profession.

He said that as president of the organisation he has dealt with complaints from persons about the conduct of some lawyers.

He, however, said that the association has engaged in other activities, including organising the Agnes Cato Memorial Lecture, and dinners at which attorney Bayliss Frederick and Justice Monica Joseph were honoured.

  1. Does this sound familiar???, it’s a long while i haven’t heard this chorus from Gonsalves about lawyers and taxes. These threats seems to always show up when successful females are being trampled, check the history.

  2. Patrick Ferrari says:

Not if the lawyer is a ULP supporter, he won’t.

We listen to Julian Mr DPP. You will prosecute who they tell you to prosecute. And you will not prosecute who they tell you not to prosecute.

You will not hold a coroner’s inquest.

  3. Here comes the spite, the malice, the hate, from a man who I consider dangerous and unfit for the position that he holds. Are these threats are made to try and silence the lawyers who want to try and uphold the natural law and protect the Vincentian people from this Marxist regime.

Ferrari you are 200% right, this is a battle between the Marxist ULP and the decent folk of the NDP, with a referee who is a ULP supporter wearing blinkers, no not blinkers, wearing a blindfold.

Man your a disgrace to SVG.

  4. Patrick Ferrari says:

    BIG BROTHER IS WATCHING US.

Pocket all the government money you want. It is not a crime … until you step on their toes.
When did the lawyers pocket government money? When did the DPP know about it? What did he do about it? Who is the bigger criminal the thief or the authority who knowingly turns his back on it, thereby sanctioning the theft and the thief?

It looked very much as if they had three additional charges in waiting on Vynnette. “On ice” as Parnell puts it. I say in the Crime Bank, on Vynnette’s account. They called in the loan, whipped out the charges, when the pit bull became irate at the private celebration of a (mistaken) “victory.” They called in the loan Mongoose Gang-style to humiliate Vynnette and to send us a message, DO NOT STEP ON OUR TOES.

THAT IS WHAT THE LAWYES WHO “POCKETED” MONEY BELONGING TO THE GOVERNMENT NOW APPEARS TO BE FACING. POCKETING GOVERNMENT MONEY WAS OKAY UNTIL THE BAR ASSOCIATION SPOKE OUT AGAINST THE JULY 11 REARREST OF VYNNETTE FREDERICK.

    THEY ARE DESPOTS.

WE ARE NOT IN A GOOD PLACE DREAD

  5. I went to bed, just got up and re-read the article.

I tossed and turned whilst sleeping, I was disturbed by the statement Colin Williams the DPP. When I woke I had the answer.

This man is unfit to serve in the position as DPP. Why? because he has information that Attorneys and Lawyers have been carrying out illegal acts, illegal matters, stealing Government money. Armed with such information it must of been wrong to disclose such a matter to the public or a third party. He was obliged to seek to prosecute these people the moment he knew of such a public atrocity. He has almost certainly broken the law to divulge such a matter to a party not involved, as a law enforcement officer or a party to the alleged crime.

The Governor General should take advice in getting rid of this man. He has broken all the rules and should be dismissed as soon as possible.

This man must be unfit to act in any furthers legal cases.

GOVERNOR GENERAL, SIR FREDDY, LETS SEE IF YOU STILL HAVE ANY BOLLOCKS. YOU HAVE A JOB TO DO, IF YOU DO NOT CARRY OUT THE RULES TO THE LETTER, I SHALL APPLY TO THE QUEENS SECRETARY TO HAVE YOU REMOVED WITH THE LOSS OF YOUR TITLE.

COLIN WILLIAM HAS PROVED HIMSELF UNFIT TO ACT IN THE CAPACITY OF THE DIRECTOR OF PUBLIC PROSECUTIONS BECAUSE OF MISBEHAVIOUR IN OFFICE. THERE IS A PROCEDURE TO BE FOLLOWED REGARDING HIS REMOVAL FOLLOWING MISBEHAVIOUR. WE EXPECT YOU TO FOLLOW THAT PROCEDURE FORTHWITH.,

THERE CAN BE NO EXCUSES NO FORGIVENESS, ONE STRIKE AND HE IS OUT.

  6. He cannot threaten to put the political frighteners on lawyers, he is obliged to use the information he has and prosecute. At the moment he could well be guilty of misbehaviour in public office.

Prosedcute or shut up, you are either telling lies, or you are telling the truth, if its the truth you are obliged to act. Please don’t make yourself look a bigger pratt than you are.

  7. The more I read this the madder I get, Gonsalves has used this tactic on several occassions to try and shut up lawyers and the Bar Association. Now we have the DPP doing the same thing. If what they say is true or even untrue, prosecute them both for mischfief in public office, also prosecute them for withholding evidence and failing to act on indictable matters when they have the evidence and knowledge to do so.

SIR FREDDY I HOPE YOU ARE MAKING APPROPRIATE REPORTS TO THE CROWN

  8. Patrick Ferrari says:

Peter, lad, THEY CAN DO ANYTHING. THEY OWN THE JUSTICE SYSTEM.

Listen to Francis and the DPP and they’re a tag team.

We are not in a good place, dread.

  9. It amazes me how quiet the Diaspora go when they are shown some of the inner workings to which they give their support.
