Member of parliament for West Kingstown, Daniel Cummings, has acquired the special chair his doctor recommended for him because of a back condition.
However, the chair was not provided by the Parliament as the Opposition lawmaker had requested.
Cummings told Parliament on Thursday that his West Kingstown constituents purchased the chair.
He has said that his back was injured when he and other Opposition lawmakers were physically removed from Parliament in early 2011.
Cummings had requested the chair from House Speaker, Hendrick Alexander, who refused.
Cummings told I-Witness News on Monday that he is in Trinidad and is “now having to give active consideration to bringing forward an operation requested by my doctors to replace two discs in my lumbar vertebrae.
“There is growing discomfort [in] sitting especially on that monster of a chair in Parliament. That is the worst possible design for my situation and it aggravates my injury with haste,” he said of the chairs that other Parliamentarians use.
“I am even now in dialogue with my medical team and would have to be guided by their recommendations.
“I am truly grateful to the people of West Kingstown, many of whom have gotten together to purchase the chair for me and to the supplier who gave 10 per cent discount on the chair,” he further said.
But while Cummings has acquired the chair, he is yet to use it. The MP was asked to withdraw from Parliament on Thursday after an outburst regarding the chair.

Cummings is taking the Government to court over the back injury he said he sustained during the 2011 incident.
He threw himself down the stairs and injured himself.
