As part of activities to mark the 34th anniversary of Independence of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, the Generation Next youth organisation will clean the Fitz Hughes beach on Oct. 28.
The group is expected to partner with the Solid Waste Management Unit and other stakeholders.
The event will be hosted under the theme “Keeping SVG Clean, Preserving Our Future”.
The clean up begins at 8 a.m. and will be followed by a short ceremony on the beach.
According to the group’s event organiser, Terranza Franklyn, this is a way for young people in the North Leeward community to participate in activities to mark the country’s 34th Anniversary of Independence.
“We are saying thank you to St. Vincent and the Grenadines in a big way by reducing the amount out waste … on our beaches,” Franklyn said.
“We are trying to get youngsters involved in something positive to mark our 34th anniversary of Independence. So we decided to focus on the environment,” she further stated.
Participants will comprise a number of youth groups in the Chateaubelair district and the members of the Richmond Vale Academy.
Generation Next is a recently formed youth organisation in North Leeward.
It aims to empower young people through a number of youth-centred activities including fundraising, community projects, workshops, mentorship programmes and other initiatives to further develop the minds and skills of our youth in North Leeward.
I am so proud of all the new positive developments which have been taking place. SVG is moving forward. I wish these activities were actually going on at the time when I was living in Fitz-Hughes Village. However, I am thankful that many other kids and teenagers are being exposed to such a positive movement. it is time we preserve our culture, our island beauty, our heritage, our St.Vincent and the Grenadines.
