Five Vincentian entrepreneurs were recognised at the Vincentian Business Excellence Awards 2013 held in the United Kingdom late November.
The event was organised by the SVG High Commission in London and saw more than 80 investors and nationals come together to participate in the event under the theme: “Think SVG”.
Awardees were:
•Matthew Alexander, who received the Special prize for outstanding contribution to Business development in the Vincentian Diaspora.
•Businessman of the year 2013 was awarded to Godson Paris, proprietor of the business – The Carpenter’s son.
•Entrepreneur of the Year 2013 went to Shaun Clarke of Clarks Sparks Electricals.
•The Bank of SVG Award for Business Excellence was awarded to Stefan Maingot. He specialises in the use of nanotechnology with his product Crep Protect. Professionals within the media and entertainment industry internationally endorse this product.
•The Government of SVG and the Grenadines Award in Business for 2013 went to Jamal Edwards. He is one of the youngest millionaires who have been endorsed by English Business magnate and inventor – Sir Richard Branson.
Lead organiser of the event, Doris Charles, stressed the importance of the Business Excellence Awards and expressed satisfaction at the attendance.
She commended the organising committee for their assistance in helping to make this year’s event the success it was.
The evening’s programme commenced with a drinks reception, followed by a formal dinner and the presentation of the awards. Sponsorship for this year came from: Bank of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, the Tourism Department — Europe, General Employees Co-operative Credit Union and InvestSVG.
The featured speaker at this year’s event was Lennox Bowman, CEO of GECCU. He congratulated the recipients of awards and the High Commission for organising and hosting the event annually.
Presentations also came via video link from Dr. Rudy Matthias, CEO of the International Airport Development Company.
He told the audience that the international airport is critical to further development of the nation and stressed the importance of the progress towards completion of construction.
