The National Broadcasting Corporation (NBC Radio) has handed over to the government a second tranche of funds raised during a radiothon after the Christmas floods last year.

Last Wednesday, Corlita Ollivierre, manager of NBC Radio, handed over a cheque for EC$64,886.53, to Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, Ralph Gonsalves

She said that amount represented the balance as of then in the account SVG Relief 2014, which was opened in the wake of the disaster.

Ollivierre noted that the radiothon involved all but one of the radio stations in SVG.

The station has paid programming that it found difficult to reschedule, she said.

Meanwhile, Gonsalves expressed his government’s gratitude.

“I want to say how grateful I am to the board of director, the management, and staff of the National Broadcasting Corporation for initiating this radiothon with other stations and for the money which have been raised,” Gonsalves said, adding that the government has received important contributions from entities, nationally, regionally and internationally.

The first tranche — EC$125,000 — was presented earlier this year.

Torrential rains on Christmas Eve triggered floods and landslides that left nine persons dead, three missing and some EC$330 million in damage and loss.
