The 2-year old Black Sand Swimming Club has received financial support from telecommunications services provider Digicel and the club’s leader Kyle Dougan said this week that the money will go a long way in helping further develop their swimmers and coaches.

“We are extremely pleased for the support that we have received,” Dougan said on Wednesday, adding that the money will be used to help develop the swimmers and coaches as well.

Black Sand is based at the Shrewsbury pool in Ratho Mill and has 36 members ranging from persons learning to swim to advance swimmers.

Marketing Manager at Digicel Juno De Roche said that swimming is an important skill that can possibly save lives hence Digicel has decided to support the club.

“Apart from that, swimming provides good exercise and is also a great recreational activity so we are glad to help and we hope that the money goes a long way in helping develop our local swimmers and coaches so we can continue competing in the region and beyond,” De Roche said.
