A Union Island resident remained in hospital Monday night after being shot in the torso in Kingstown Sunday morning.

Head of the Criminal Investigation Department, Assistant Superintendent of Police Sydney James, has identified the injured man as 31-year-old Matthan Slater.

Witnesses say Slater was near “Yanky” shop on Higginson Street around 2 a.m. on Sunday when an assailant approached him, grabbed him by the neck and shot him in the abdomen.

I-Witness News understands that the Slater collapsed twice while attempting to walk after being shot.

Two persons are said to have searched his pockets while he was lying helpless on the ground, while onlookers asked that the police and ambulance be summoned.
