Police have identified the dead man found in Richmond Hill on Thursday as former murder accused Devron St. John.

The 26-year-old Ottley Hall resident had a bullet wound to the throat, police say.

His body was found sometime after 8 p.m. along the Richmond Hill public road.

In 2012, St. John was acquitted of the murder of Rillan Hill CD vendor Shawn Gordon who was shot at Edinboro on Dec. 19, 2010.

St. John was also charged with possession of a firearm to aid in the commission of an offence, and unlawful use of a firearm.

However, after two witnesses were called, Justice Frederick Bruce-Lyle directed the foreman of the 12-member jury to return formal verdicts of not guilty.

Crown Counsel Carl Williams withdrew the case against St. John as the prosecution found it difficult to extract from witnesses evidence to properly identify the accused.

Two other persons, Dwayne Banfield of Kingstown and Jomo Brudy of Edinboro were also charged in connection with Gordon’s death.

Police say their investigations into St. John’s death are continuing and that a post-mortem examination is expected to be performed on the body.
