The ruling Unity Labour Party (ULP) is questioning the financing of the main opposition New Democratic Party’s (NDP) headquarters, which was built more than 20 years ago.

Prime Minister and Political Leader of the ULP, Ralph Gonsalves, and ULP General Secretary, Sen. Julian Francis, raised the questions on Wednesday as the ULP announced that it has purchased its headquarters building for EC$1.2 million.

The party rented the building, located at Murray’s Road, for 10 years.

It failed to pay rent between 2011 and March 2015  amassing EC$100,000 in arrears and triggering an eviction notice.

“Inside of this property, there is not one nail, not one tile, not one louvres, not one piece of galvanise or lumber or concrete which has come by way of the Government of St. Vincent and the Grenadines,” Gonsalves told a press conference called to announce the purchase.

“I would like the leadership of the NDP to make such a declaration in relation to their headquarters and I invite them so to make it,” he said of the NDP’s headquarters, Democrat House, which, like the ULP’s main office, Labour House, is located on Murray’s Road.

Francis said questions were raised during the construction of Democrat House, which was built by the same contractor at the same time as the state-owned Financial Complex.

  1. After 20 years they are now questioning financing? if they suspected something was amiss, why haven’t they done an investigation after all this time in office? Seems to me some one would be in jail. Just goes to show that there is nothing to investigate. ULP is just trying to muddy the electoral waters by trying to cast doubt in the voters minds. They should be ashamed of themselves. Explain why rent was not paid for 4 years? Were they squatting and hoping that time would run out before the owner noticed, so they could claim adverse possession? Shame on you Senator Francis, shame on you Mr. Prime Minister. May a wart grow on your tongues and on your noses, while NDP comes out smelling like roses.

  2. I listened to Allan Cruickshank explaining the salary deductions that were used to construct democrat house. So now that he has explained that maybe it is time that we get answers for other things. We need answers for the crocus bag of us dollars. We need answers to the monies that CID found in the house in Rillan Hill.We need answers to Glen Jackson,s death. We need answers as to how persons went from rags to riches overnight. We need persons to clear their names of the rape allegations hanging over their heads. We need to see the Argyle International Airport title deed.some of us really need to take the beam out of our eyes first and stop play holier than thou when our names are stink ah road.

    1. I agree! You have just begun to scratch the surface! We also need answers to the Union Island “Soap powder” smugglers of Venezuelan fishermen that don’t have fish or probably don’t know how to fish. They killed Vincentians and this government let them go home free! Yes, now the ULP are asking questions about a building that was built 20 years ago….sounds like Ralph is trying to get everyone to look one place while he runs a deception elsewhere.

  3. It’s a smoke screen to take our eyes away from the purchase of their headquarters, because there must be something dodgy that we have failed to see.
