Candidates in St. Vincent and the Grenadines obtained 100 per cent passes in eight subjects in this year’s Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examinations (CAPE).

Candidates returned a perfect pass rate in Caribbean studies unit 1, computer science unit 2, digital media unit 1 and 2, environmental science unit 2, French unit 1 and 2, information technology unit 1 and 2, management of business unit 2, and Spanish unit 2.

History and mathematics saw some of the lowest pass rates, 57.14 per cent and 44.66 per cent.

The Ministry of Education said in a press release that passing grades were obtained in 1,411 subject sittings, representing an overall pass rate of 89.42 percent, an increase over the 2014 results, when the overall pass rate was 87.71 per cent.

This year’s pass rate is the best since 2008, when it was 90.88 per cent.

There were a candidate entry of 536, 469 of whom were from the SVG Community College and 67 private candidates.

Community College students sat 1,578 examinations in 21 subjects.

Digital media unit 1 and 2 and physical education and sports unit 1 were sat for the first time in 2015.

There was a pass rate of 92.86 per cent for physical education and sports unit 1.
