St. Lucia were left frustrated after rain put paid to any chance they had of beating Grenada and move up the ladder in the 2015 Senior Windward Islands cricket tournament on Wednesday at the Sion Hill Playing Field.

Starting the day on 192 for 7, St. Lucia lost two quick wickets, and with Keddy Lesporis unable to bat, they closed the inning on 196 for 9.

Kevin Augustine was caught off Denis George for 1, and Loic Prospere quickly followed stumped off George for 02. Extras totalled 13 – 1 wide, 6 no-balls, 1 leg-bye, and 5 byes — with Dornan Edward remaining 24 not out.

Bowling for Grenada, Denis George finished with 6 for 63 off 18.3 overs, Derron Hypolite three for 47 off 15 overs.

Armed with a lead of 98 runs, St. Lucia were hoping for better weather to oust the Grenadians for a second time. But frustrated by a series of rain stoppages, the St. Lucians could only watch as their hopes dissipated into the ground.

The Grenadians, who must have been thankful for the rain, reached 108 for 4 with Devon Smith, who shifted down the order to number five, unbeaten on 42. With him was Emmanuel Stewart, 20 not out. The final and most effective shower fell at 4:18 p.m. with 50.2 overs bowled.

The rains came in the morning session at 10:25 and resulted in play resuming 1:37 p.m.. The second and significant shower came at 3:19 p.m. but the umpires determined that weather conditions were not permitting play to continue and called it off at 4:24 p.m.

The Grenada wickets were Roland Cato who was caught behind by Charles off Polius for 03, Heron Campbell was trapped leg-before-wicket by Polius for 20 and Denis Smith fell to Polius leg-before-wicket for 5. Andre Fletcher (14), who was given a number of chances, was stumped by Charles.

Bowling for St. Lucia, Dalton Polius finished with 3 for 36 and Larry Edward 1 for 28.
