A student demonstration to highlight the lack of chairs at the Petit Bordel Secondary School on Monday was shut down by school officials who told students if they want to protest do so when they are not in uniform.

Some fourth and fifth form students staged the demonstration as they continue to take classes without chair three weeks into the new school year, which began on Sept. 7.

Meanwhile, a Ministry of Education official told I-Witness News on Monday that the shortage of chairs at the North Leeward secondary school is “strange”.

Some students at the Petit Bordel Secondary School have been without chairs since school re-opened on Sept. 7.

“What I can say is that it is strange that there are desks at the school and there are no chairs, which is strange because the Ministry of Education’s policy is never to send desk alone; it is to send desks and chairs,” Timothy Scott told I-Witness News.

Scott, a project manager responsible for the supply of furniture to school, further said:

“At that school, I know for a fact, any time they got furniture, they go desks and chairs.”

He said the school will get chairs as soon as the manufacture of the furniture is finished.

“It will be shortly,” Scott told I-Witness News, but did not give a time frame.

“That is all I can tell you,” he said.

  1. The school official who requested the students protest when they are out of uniform is out to lunch. Why should they and who can tell students from parents in a demonstration? All the students are doing is using democratic means to press their point. I hope they told the officials to go to hell. Things keep looking bad for the ULP they longer Ralph delay “ringing that bell”.
