The ruling Unity Labour Party on Sunday denied that Prime Minister Ralph Gonsalves holds a multi-million US-dollar account in a Swiss bank, as a document that began circulating on social media earlier that day alleges.

“Today, the Prime Minister of St. Vincent & the Grenadines, the Hon. Ralph E. Gonsalves, instructed the Office of the Attorney General to immediately contact the Government of the United States of America under the Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty to investigate a fraudulent bank document with an alleged bank account domiciled to an address in Brooklyn, NY USA,” the ULP said in a post on its Facebook pages.

Gonsalves, who is also Minister of National Security and Legal Affairs has further instructed the Commissioner of Police “to open a criminal investigation into the fraudulent document locally, which includes any regional or international operatives currently working in St. Vincent & the Grenadines, as well as to immediately contact INTERPOL, the Regional Security System and the Joint Regional Intelligence Fusion Centre of IMPACS to assist in the investigation”.

The post said the Prime Minister has further instructed the police chief, Michael Charles, to alert the Director of Public Prosecution, Colin Williams, of the investigations.

“It is illegal under American, French, Swiss, European Union and Vincentian law to fabricate documents and make slanderous and untrue allegations against individuals,” the ULP said.

“The fraudulent document circulating on the Internet contains an account number that does not exist at HSBC Bank. This is verified by HSBC Bank itself and is independently verified by any Vincentian by typing in the IBAN account number present on the fraudulent document at http://www.ibancalculator.com/

“The IBAN bank account check confirms that the bank account number on the fraudulent document does not exist. It is not an HSBC bank account adding to the evidence that the document is a fraud,” the ULP said.

It said the document circulating on the Internet “is an absolute FRAUD”.

“And, as such, the Prime Minister has requested the relevant authorities in St. Vincent & the Grenadines, the United States, Switzerland, France and the European Union to investigate this matter and bring the perpetrators to justice.

“The Prime Minister denies holding any such account and it is clearly evidenced by the fact that the account does not exist. The Unity Labour Party has responded promptly to this falsehood with a statement and a preliminary investigation because it goes to the heart of good governance. Our internal investigation is on-going.

“This monumental lie indicates the extent to which the opponents of the ULP and Ralph will go to gain political power,” the ULP said.

  1. 1. So where is his overseas wealth domiciled?

    2. What is his net worth at home and abroad?

    3. What have been the sources of his wealth?

In many countries, this information is publicly known as part of overall political transparency legislation.

We should already have had this information voluntarily made public by Arhim Eustace and his team. That he has not done so speaks for itself.

We should also have such information provided by Sir James Mitchell as part of new criminal inquiry into the unfinished Ottley Hall marina debacle.

To paraphrase Marcellus in Shakespeare’s Hamlet, there is something rotten in the state of St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

    1. Thanks for that David, how kind of William to mention Saint Vincent and the Grenadines in one of his plays.

But according to Gonsalves he was one of his friends, is that true or is that a lie?

  2. Dr. Dexter Lewis says:

Let us hope none of this is true, otherwise Gonsalves will not have any place to which to escape. Venezuela will be off limits since anti-Chavez coalition of parties just won 90% of the seats in Parliament and although Madura is still President, but he has no power.

Maybe Gonsalves can hide him in Gorse, the 2 of them together?
