The main opposition New Democratic Party will file at least two election petitions today (Wednesday), party leader Arnhim Eustace told reporters on Tuesday.
“They will be filed,” Eustace said, noting that the deadline is today, Dec. 30.
He did not disclose what constituencies the petitions will relate to when he spoke to reporters amidst NDP supporters who came to protest at the ceremonial opening of the 10th Parliament.
“What I will tell you, it is not more than two now,” Eustace said of the elections petition.
Electoral officials have declared that the Unity Labour Party (ULP) won eight of the 15 parliamentary seats, and a fourth consecutive term in office in the Dec. 9 polls.
But the NDP, which has been declared winners of the remaining seven seats, is claiming victory in Central Leeward and that it is the legitimate government.
The High Court on Monday refused an application by Ben Exeter, the NDP’s Central Leeward candidate, who electoral official say lost to the ULP’s Louis Straker, to access counterfoils from ballots cast in that constituency.
Eustace said the NDP will decide today (Wednesday) if it will appeal that ruling.
