Some Vincentians living overseas have used social media to encourage terrorism in St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Prime Minister Ralph Gonsalves said on Thursday.

He said U.S. officials have been notified of such social media posts.

“We notice that a context for the propagation of information is being inflamed by a number of persons who are on social media, most of them living in the comfort of overseas.

“You would have seen them,” Gonsalves told a press conference on Thursday in which he spoke about the fire at the Public Works compound at Arnos Vale earlier that day.

Eustace fires back at Gonsalves over Public Works blaze comments

“There are calls to assassinate Ralph and his family. There are calls to burn down Ralph’s dwelling house — his personal property. They are encouraging people in the act of terrorism, to burn down the city. I want to know what the Leader of the Opposition is saying about this,” Gonsalves said.

The Prime Minister did not identify the persons who he said were committing these acts, but said some of them were in St. Vincent and the Grenadines campaigning for the main opposition New Democratic Party (NDP), in the lead up to the Dec. 9 general elections.

He said some of these persons use what they believe “is the safety of their home in Brooklyn or wherever, to encourage this kind of lawlessness.

“I want to say to them that the police, directly, and through the Ministry of Foreign affairs have informed the American authorities and provided examples of these postings. I just want to make that point.

“And, I happen to know that the Ambassador himself, the American ambassador to St. Vincent and the Grenadines, has been engaged to be made aware of the use of this illegal activity on U.S. soil –directing terrorist activity against St. Vincent and the Grenadines and the Leader of the country.

“I have not spoken this before, but in the light of this fire this morning, I want to inform the public,” said Gonsalves, who is also Minister of National Security.

In response, NDP president and Leader of the Opposition, Arnhim Eustace, said in a statement on Thursday:

“Without providing any single evidence, Ralph Gonsalves also accused Vincentians living in the United States of terrorism, and is seeking to put American authorities on his own people.

“What all of this highlights, is what we have always known – that this man will do and say anything to remain in power.”

Same way he had announced his own destruction and assassination in 2000 and 2001. He ain’t still alive? Drama queen.

  2. Let me tell them something.

The written word cannot be taken back. It is now evidence and no matter how groups/pages are removed from facebook and profile page locations are changed to Germany, the posts are already documented.

I saw some of the posts and immediately thought that the posters were very stupid to utter some of the things that were. Those posts were made only because of hate. I don’t mind politicking, but instigating violence is definitely going too far.

Let those ‘americans’ go to american prison and read the first Ammendment for the duration of their sentences.

  3. I encounter these characters all the time in Brooklyn. They are for the most parts a bunch of degenerate losers who have nothing going for them. If they really had the responsibility of a full time job and family to take care I would like to see where they will find time to engage in all of this kind type of stupid ac6ivity. It is just a convenient way to vent their frustration with their own pitiful lives in the US.

  4. It’s interesting that Mr Eustace is talking about not having “evidence”…since when you need evidence to accuse people of wrongdoing in vincyland. Did the NDP and Mr Eustace, show any evidence to justify their reprehensible and cowardly character assassination of the supervisor of election?

I don’t think it is a far stretch of the imagination to believe that this fire was indeed arson and the perpetrator could have been influenced by the inflammatory political rhetoric spewed by the NDP and their surrogates.

The NDP is trying to replicate the road block revolution of 2001 and so the refusal to accept the election results and having these 24/7 protesting are all part of the effort to make the country “ungovernable”. But the key difference between 2001 and now is that the majoriity of the country desired a change of government; the NDP had ran its course, the jig was up for Mitchell and he knew it. Had Mitchell not punkd out in 2001, it would have been the same hallelujah with the NDP getting their arse royally kicked.

The NDP missed their calling in 2010, they had the election in the bag, but a combination of poor strategy, insipid leadership; and saddled with the baggage of the Mitchell redux; saw them snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.

No amount of protesting and obstructionism is going to forced the government out. The people have spoken and until they say otherwise, the NDP is simply spinning top in mud. But let us say for argument sake and gonsalves were to succumb to the pressure and call an election within a year;given the numbers from the recent election, I strongly suspect, the NDP would be wiped out on the mainland with Leacock and Cummings, the only possible survivors. The clamoring of the NDP may very well be an existential threat to themselves as a political entity in vincyland.

    1. Just saw you link. I notices there are a few trolls that did not say the truth, but most gave Liat the deserved “poor” rating. Obviously it is Ralph’s airline. Like everything Ralph does (except elections) it is of sub-standard and sham quality.
Read the article on “International Man” The article is called “Benefits of an inefficient Government”.
This is written by a world-respected financial analyst and does not even know or mention all the problems that make Liat terrible. He does know that Liat is terrible because of the government of SVG.

    2. Yes, just saw this and thanks for the link.

But you know that the Argyle boasters will just say that this is all the more reason for building the new airport — to get rid of our horrible LIAT — not knowing that LIAT will have a stranglehold on the new airport because it will be the sole regularly scheduled airline servicing the facility.

Ralph’s greatest masterstroke is his ability to understand and manipulate the simple minds of our unsophisticated masses by beguiling them with his siren song of untold prosperity once the airport is completed.

An efficient fire has taken place at a location where supposedly valuable assets are stored by the government of the day. This is a government that has demonstrated as recently as November-December 2015 that it has discretionary resources and money more than it knows what to do with. Why is the PM not focusing on the quality of the security detail to safeguard those assets rather than be squandering media resources and ink to prattle predicable stories?

As tough as it might be to imagine, there might come a time when he will no longer be able to rely on his tested trickeries. They just might repeat on him. It happens to all of us but not necessarily all at the same time. There is just so much mindless, unconscionable s*it you could produce in a lifetime.

    1. Since you mention efficiency of the fire, there are other aspects of the word “efficient” to consider.
See this article that talks about Ralph Gonsalves and SVG but does not even mention Ralph or SVG… anyone that knows either will know who is being talked about!
