Police have, so far this year, ticketed six van drivers for reckless driving and have suspended the licences of two of these drivers.

Head of the Traffic Branch, Superintendent of Police Kenneth John made the disclosure on Tuesday at a meeting held with minibus conductors to brief them on their responsibilities under the law.

“I believe two of them, we have since had the Commissioner [of Police] suspend their driver’s licence and I believe the other four are under investigation. So I don’t know what the outcome will be,” John said of the ticketed drivers.

“So that is why we are calling on you to have your drivers drive responsibly and let us cut out the recklessness that we saw happen last year,” John said.

John also announced at the meeting that in 2015 the police recognised two omnibus drivers for outstanding performance in 2014.

“This year, we are going to increase it to four,” he said, adding that president of National Omnibus Association, Anthony “Code Red” Bacchus, will also be a part of the selection committee “so that you all can see that we have not been biased”.

“Now we are having this meeting for 2016, we would also like to see at least three or four conductors also included in our appreciation for 2016,” John said.

  1. Keep up the good work 365 days Mr Policeman. The drivers will come to understand, there will be serious repercussions for their reckless driving and other law-breaking behavior on the roads.

Praise the good police work and condemn the crap they sometimes engaged in. At the end of the day, we need the police to maintain law and order.
