Country meet Town Outa Trouble, Smashers, Nice Radio Clinchers and Owia Young Strikers recorded contrasting victories on another weekend of pulsating action in the SVG Police Co-operative Credit Union Clinchers T20 competition at the Richland Park Oval.

On Saturday, Country Meet Town Outa Trouble registered back to back wins in their two scheduled matches.

In the first match, Country Meet Town Outa Trouble defeated Mt Pleasant Strikers by 92 runs.

SCORE: Country Meet Town Outa Trouble 146 (19.3 overs), Mickel Mapp 42 (3×6, 4×4), Rodan Bentick 35 (5×6, 1×4), Orlando Tesheira 4/20 (three overs); Mt Pleasant Strikers 54 (14.4 overs), Rodan Bentick 3/18.

In the second match, the “showdown at sundown” never materialised as Country Meet Town Outa Trouble, behind an attacking unbeaten half century by Richie Richards, left an extra clip with Gunners with a 148 run beating.

Winning the toss and batting, Country Meet Town Outa Trouble reached 159/5 in their 20 overs with Richards getting 66* with 7 sixes and 3 fours and Javid Harry 36. Max Bibby took 3/27 bowling for Gunners.

Faced with a run rate of 8 an over, Gunners, batting with eight men, were left shell shocked as they capitulated for 11 in 5.3 overs — the competition’s lowest total in its five-year history. Nicholas Ottley took 3/2 and Sunil James 3/9, bowling for Country Meet Town Outa Trouble.

On Sunday, Budgmart Simple Touch went under to Smashers by 11runs.

Smashers, batting first, reached 59 in 11.5 overs, with Brian McClean returning the impressive figures of 6/7 in 2.5 overs and Montel John 3/9. Budgmart Simple Touch were then dismissed for 48 in 16.1overs with Linton Peters taking 4/13 from four overs.

In Sunday’s second match, Nice Radio Clinchers defeated Rogers Photo Studio Fya 1 by 5 wickets.

Winning the toss and batting, Rogers Photo Studio Fya 1 collapsed from a position of endless possibilities at 69/5 to be all out for 79 in 18.2 overs, with Marldin Scrubb 3/16 polishing off the tail. Israel Baptiste’s 22 was the topscore.

Nice Radio Clinchers seemed to be coasting along to victory but were given a scare going from 41/2 to 43/5 but they achieved the win without further loss. Donwell Hector topscored with 29.

In the weekend’s final match, Owia Young Strikers got the better of CGM Gallagher Novice by a faster scoring rate after rain brought a premature end to their match.

Batting first, C.G.M. Gallagher Novice were held to 95/9 off their 20 overs with Sydney Campbell 27 being the topscore as Randel Munroe took 3/20.

Owia Young Strikers won after being 73/4 in the 15th over at which stage C.G.M. Gallagher Novice were 55/5 when they batted. Zaniel Baptiste topscored for Owia Young Strikers with 38, which included 3 sixes and 4 fours.

Player of the weekend was Brian McClean of Budgemart Simple Touch for returning the impressive figures of 6/7 in 2.5 against Smashers.
