The 16-year-old Ottley Hall resident who was shot in Upper New Montrose (“Monkey Hill”) Wednesday night was injured by the holder of a licensed firearm who was defending himself during an attempted robbery.

The teenager, Alwyn “Bunny” Browne, has told the media that he was walking along a shortcut to his house when the shooting took place.

He said three masked men opened fire on him, shooting him in the chin and arm around 10 p.m.

But iWitness News was reliably informed that the holder of a licensed firearm, who was defending himself against armed robbers, shot the teenager.

It is not clear if Browne was believed to have been among the would-be robbers or if he was in the wrong place at the wrong time.

iWitness News understands that a resident of the Upper Montrose area who has a licensed firearm opened fire when some men approached him with guns.

The resident then flattened himself on the ground as the men returned fire.

The resident crawled full circle and came behind the men and again returned fire, hitting Browne twice.

This may explain why residents of the area described hearing a “shoot out” in Upper New Montrose Wednesday night.

The resident who was involved in the shooting declined to comment on it to iWitness News on Friday, saying that there are “implications for family, etc”.

The persons described the experience as a traumatic one, but said they would get over it.

Browne has undergone surgery for his injuries and is in hospital.

Wednesday incident comes one day after a police officer was robbed and beaten on her way to work, in what is believed to be an unrelated crime.

A masked assailant beat the female police officer while she was walking in the Langley Park area around 4 a.m.

  1. This is disturbing. How can they do this to the woman police. Who’s to blame? Then, if the head is sick so also is the entire body. ???
