A Vincentian man was on Wednesday arrested in St. Kitts on suspicion that he had killed his girlfriend, also a Vincentian, earlier that day.

The killing is said to have occurred close to a police station in that Leeward Island.

Police in Basseterre have identified the deceased as Samantha Peniston, who is said to be in her late 20s. Her alleged killer has been named as Cleveland Lee — said to be in his early 40s.

Sources in St. Vincent tell iWitness News that both Lee and Peniston are originally from Redemption Sharpes.

Media reports out of Basseterre say that Peniston died after being stabbed.

Reports suggest that there might have been a domestic dispute in which Lee was also injured.

He is said to be in hospital receiving treatment for his wound(s).

SKN Vibes, a media outlet in St. Kitts, cited Superintendent of Police Travis Rogers as saying that police were informed of the crime but before 9 a.m. Wednesday.

“Initial investigations are that the alleged offender came to the police station and reported the matter that he had killed his girlfriend,” the senior police officer said.

Peniston was reportedly stabbed in a house she and Lee shared in Station Street, Old Road.

The house is said to be located opposite a police station.

SKNVibes cited Rogers as saying that an incident might have occurred before the stabbing took place.

The police officer said he could not confirm or deny reports that Lee attempted suicide after Peniston was fatally wounded, SKNVibes has reported.

The police officer, however, said that Lee sustained some sort of injury and its cause cannot be ascertained until further investigations are made.

Peniston’s death is recorded as the 17th homicide in the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis this year.
