The driver has been identified as Stern Pope, said to be from the Chapmans area.

The Hairoun official told iWitness News that the company is again relooking the security of its sales personnel following Tuesday’s robbery and shooting, the second in about five years.

Reports are the Pope was processing an order sometime before 2 p.m. when a masked gunman approached and discharged a firearm.

Matthews’ business place was closed at the time.

Pope reportedly tossed the money bag to the assailant, who then shot him in both legs before fleeing the scene in a rented vehicle.

The two conductors were at the back of the truck processing the order when the shooting took place but escaped unharmed.

Pope was taken to the Chateaubelair Hospital where he was treated before being taken by Ambulance to the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital in Kingstown.

The Hairoun official who spoke to iWitness News said that the company was yet to determine how much money was stolen during the robbery.

The officials said that his company is examining ways of providing security for their staff, noting that another driver was robbed and shot in the Glen area a few years ago.
