President of the New Democratic Party (NDP) and Leader of the Opposition, Arnhim Eustace, shocked St. Vincent and the Grenadines and the Taiwan embassy in Kingstown when he announced on Tuesday that if elected to office, the NDP would cut ties with Taiwan and establish diplomatic relations with China.

Below are the full statement by Eustace and the response by the Taiwan embassy.

  1. Why did Arnhim have to make this statement at this time? He’s now taking the cybercrime bill issue off the table and replacing it with something that does nothing to benefit the NDP. Is this something that can bring the NDP supporters to demonstrate against? I don’t think so!
Until and unless there is a valid reason given to make such a statement at this time, I believe my observation of many NDP folks are political dunce.

  2. The Taiwanese have had the best part of the deal with their private fishing fleet pulling over a billion US dollars worth of fish from our Atlantic fishing grounds. They have been landing much of it into Trinidad cold storage. Filleted, prepared and boxed on board factory ships then transferred to refrigerated ships for delivery.

I have photo’s of the Trinidad operation. I will be writing another story on the matter as I have done several times before.
