A prison officer with nine years of service has been charged with attempting to smuggle a cellular phone and its accessories into her Majesty’s Prisons (HMP), Kingstown.

Louie Cupid, 43, of Murray’s Village, pleaded not guilty to the charge when he appeared before Chief Magistrate, Rechanne Browne-Matthias at the Serious Offences Court in Kingstown on Thursday.

He is charged with attempting to bring into HMP, Kingstown a prohibited item, to wit one Azumi cellular phone and its accessories, composed of a headset, a USB cable, a portable cellular phone charger (power pack) and one adapter, contrary to Section 47(b) of the Prisons Act.

Station bail continues and Cupid returns to court on Nov. 22 for trial.
